Are you looking for a long-term savegame that I especially recommend in combination with my Megapack? Here are 10 clubs outside of Europe that will provide you with exciting challenges!

Below, you’ll find 10 clubs from smaller (or lesser-known footballing) nations outside of Europe that could be great for a challenging rebuild project in Football Manager. “Small” in this context might mean a low population, an underdeveloped league, or simply a low football status within FIFA’s hierarchy. That’s what makes them exciting—limited funds, a small fanbase, but plenty of room to build something great!

1. AS Pirae (Tahiti)

  • Country & League: Tahiti Ligue 1 (French Polynesia)
  • Why is it interesting?
    • Tahiti (French Polynesia) has around 280,000 people, and while football is popular, the league is mostly amateur.
    • AS Pirae has been one of the country’s most successful clubs and even participated in the FIFA Club World Cup in 2022 as an OFC representative.
  • Rebuild challenge: With limited financial resources, your goal will be to establish AS Pirae as a dominant force in Oceania, challenge New Zealand’s top clubs in the OFC Champions League, and perhaps even reach another FIFA Club World Cup appearance.

2. Transport United (Bhutan)

  • Country & League: Bhutan Premier League (Bhutan)
  • Why is it interesting?
    • Bhutan is one of the weakest footballing nations in the FIFA rankings.
    • Transport United was dominant in the 2000s but has since lost ground to other clubs.
  • Rebuild challenge: Start almost from scratch, improve the squad, develop the few available talents, and use neighboring countries (India, Nepal) as a transfer market. A perfect long-term career save!

3. DPMM FC (Brunei)

  • Country & League: Officially in the Brunei Super League, but previously played in the Singapore Premier League.
  • Why is it interesting?
    • Brunei has only 450,000 inhabitants, and DPMM is one of the few professionally run clubs in the region.
    • They dominated at times in Singapore, but face little competition in Brunei’s domestic league.
  • Rebuild challenge: Strengthen DPMM FC, develop their youth academy, and push for regional success in the AFC Cup.

4. Erchim FC (Mongolia)

  • Country & League: Mongolian Premier League (Mongolia)
  • Why is it interesting?
    • Mongolia, with just 3 million people, has football far behind sports like wrestling and archery.
    • Erchim is the record champion but operates with minimal financial resources.
  • Rebuild challenge: Take Erchim FC to continental competitions (AFC Cup) and focus on improving infrastructure (youth, training facilities).

5. Tafea FC (Vanuatu)

  • Country & League: Port Vila Football League (Vanuatu)
  • Why is it interesting?
    • Vanuatu (pop. 300,000) competes in Oceania, where clubs from New Zealand and Papua New Guinea dominate.
    • Tafea FC was once a powerhouse domestically but struggled internationally in the OFC Champions League.
  • Rebuild challenge: Make Tafea FC a serious contender in the OFC Champions League and close the gap to teams like Auckland City.

6. Solomon Warriors (Solomon Islands)

  • Country & League: Telekom S-League (Solomon Islands)
  • Why is it interesting?
    • The Solomon Islands (700,000 people) are passionate about football but have little financial backing.
    • Solomon Warriors are one of the strongest teams domestically and regularly play in the OFC Champions League.
  • Rebuild challenge: Expand their regional dominance, create a more professional club structure, and challenge New Zealand’s top clubs.

7. Royal Leopards (Eswatini)

  • Country & League: Premier League of Eswatini (formerly Swaziland)
  • Why is it interesting?
    • Eswatini (1.2 million people) is often overshadowed by its larger neighbor, South Africa.
    • Royal Leopards have won domestic titles but struggle in CAF competitions (Champions League & Confederation Cup).
  • Rebuild challenge: Boost their international reputation, generate revenue from CAF competitions, and improve football in Eswatini.

8. FC Djibouti Telecom (Djibouti)

  • Country & League: Djibouti Premier League (Djibouti)
  • Why is it interesting?
    • Djibouti (under 1 million people) is almost non-existent in world football.
    • FC Djibouti Telecom is one of the better-known clubs in a very weak league.
  • Rebuild challenge: Develop basic club infrastructure, raise the league’s reputation, and aim for CAF qualification success.

9. St. Michel United (Seychelles)

  • Country & League: Seychelles Premier League (Seychelles)
  • Why is it interesting?
    • The Seychelles (pop. ~100,000) are known for beautiful islands, but not for football.
    • St. Michel United have won multiple domestic titles and played in CAF competitions, but rarely progress far.
  • Rebuild challenge: Work with an extremely limited budget, scout players from Africa or free agents, and try to elevate the league’s level.

10. Verdes FC (Belize)

  • Country & League: Premier League of Belize (Belize)
  • Why is it interesting?
    • Belize (~400,000 people) is the weakest footballing nation in Central America (CONCACAF region).
    • Verdes FC have competed in the CONCACAF League but never made it far.
  • Rebuild challenge: Turn Verdes FC into the clear powerhouse in Belize and surprise teams in CONCACAF tournaments (Champions League & League).

Summary

Managing in these tiny or obscure footballing nations means minimal budgets, semi-professional structures, and a small talent pool. However, you often get direct access to continental competitions (AFC Cup, OFC Champions League, CAF Champions League, CONCACAF League), making for an exciting long-term save with the potential for something truly unique.
